Slowly but surely the Lourdes Grotto at Mirador Hill, Baguio City is being transformed. Immediately evident is the increase in paved space around the image of the Virgin. Completed in 2007, in time for the crowds that visit the Grotto during Holy Week, this area of about 250 square meters is provided for times when Mass and other devotions attract a big crowd to the grotto. Also built was access for the handicap.
In 2007, the grotto area is being fenced and a gate at the bottom of the grotto is being built. This assures that the grounds of the grotto remain a sacred place, used for activities that honor God and show devotion to the Virgin Mary.
Other plans have been mapped out, which include:
1. restoration of the 1913 image of Our Lady of Lourdes
2. renovation and waterproofing of the grotto
3. addition of a water feature at the grotto
4. remodelling of the altar area
5. remodelling of the area for candle and floral offerings
6. building an out door Stations of the Cross, following a path different from the road
7. building an area for stalls, rest rooms, and parking at a distance from the grotto
8. widening and repair of the asphalt road to the grotto
9. repairing and remodelling the shrine to St. Joseph and the Holy Family at the bottom of the hill
10. placement of a shrine to the Jesus
11. planting of gardens and
12. establishing prayer areas.
All these works will be possible because of the generous donations of many devotees to Our Lady.
